How to Live Stream NFL Thursday Night Football without Cable

NFL Thursday Night football has been around now for more than a decade giving pro football starved fans something to hold them over until Sunday. In 2018, there are a couple of viewing options for those without cable who still wish to watch Thursday night games online.

The viewing options include a membership to Amazon Prime,  or subscribing to one of the number of online video services such as Playstation Vue, Sling TV, Hulu TV, Direct TV Now, or YouTube TV.

Amazon Prime Video

If you are an Amazon Prime subscriber, you already have access to watch most of the NFL Thursday Night lineup. By most, we mean 11 of the 17 weeks of the season. You can watch the games in your browser, via mobile with the Prime Video app from the Apple App Store or Google Play store, or using a tv connected device such as the Fire TV Stick, Roku, xBox, Playstation, and others.

The broadcast deal for the NFL Thursday Night package is a bit confusing. The Fox team will broadcast all the games across all platforms. All games are available on the NFL network, but only 11 are available on Fox and Amazon Prime Video. With Amazon Prime Video, you also get the option to listen to an alternative audio call of the game by Andrea Kremer and Hannah Storm with commentary by sports business expert Andrew Brandt.

The NFL Thursday Night NFL schedule of games for 2018 available on Amazon Prime:

9/27: Minnesota @ LA Rams
10/04: Indianapolis @ New England
10/11: Philadelphia @ NY Giants
10/18: Denver @ Arizona
10/25: Miami @ Houston
11/01: Oakland @ San Francisco
11/08: Carolina @ Pittsburgh
11/15: Green Bay @ Seattle
11/29: New Orleans @ Dallas
12/06: Jacksonville @ Houston
12/13: LA Chargers @ Kansas City

Basically, you don’t get the first few Thursday night games, the Thanksgiving night game, and a few games at the end of the year.

If you are not already an Amazon Prime subscriber, you can sign up for a yearly subscription for $119 per year (which includes all sorts of other benefits) or $12.99 per month. Students with a valid .edu can signup for Amazon Prime Student for $6.49 / month, or $59 / year, both of which includes a 6 month free trial.

Online Video Services: Playstation Vue, Sling TV, and Direct TV Now

Since all games are broadcast on NFL Network, any of the online video service packages that offer the NFL Network will give you access to live stream all the Thursday night games.

Here is a list of current providers offering the NFL Network:

Playstation Vue: The “Core” or higher packages: A$49.99 / month and up.

Sling TV: The “Sling Blue” package: $25/month

Direct TV Now: The “Just Right” ($55/month) and higher packages.

Unfortunately, YouTube TV and Hulu with Live TV do NOT currently offer thee NFL Network.

Mobile Only

The NFL app and the Yahoo Sports app allow you to watch every in-market NFL game on your mobile device for free with any additional subscription and without the need to authenticate through a TV provider. This is a mobile only option, so you can’t connect to a larger screen, but it is free to all with those apps on Android and iOS.
