The Best Mobile Apps for the 2011 NFL Draft
The NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday April 28th at 8PM ET. If you are looking for a great mobile app to stay caught up with all the selections and 2011 Draft prospects, check out some of these mobile apps.
NFL Mobile App
The NFL mobile app has recently been updated to feature the 2011 NFL draft, but unfortunately, it’s available only for Verizon customers with supported Android or Blackberry phones.
UPDATE: The NFL Mobile App is now Available for iPhone!!
- Draft Tracker, which allows you to follow the picks as they are made during the draft.
- Detailed team needs.
- Scouting reports on all prospects, including strengths and weaknesses. Many featured players also have video vignettes.
- Receive text alerts for each pick, or picks from your favorite team.
A top notch app all the way. If you are a Verizon customers with a supported phone, this is likely all the app you’ll need. Customers can download the App by texting “NFL” to 8915 for a link, and Android users can also download it from the Android Market, or by scanning the QR code below. Some features, like video, may require additional VCast subscription.
Check here to see if your phone is on the list of supported devices or get more information.
Get the NFL Mobile App for iPhone from the App Store. (For Verizon customers only!!)
NFL 11 for iPhone or iPad
This is another NFL app that isn’t specifically a draft app, but it has been updated to feature the 2011 draft. NFL ‘11 is the official NFL iPad and iPhone app, and while it pales in comparison to the NFL Mobile Android app for Verizon customers, it still provides nice quality info for free.
- Draft Tracker
- Team Needs
- Scouting reports for the top 62 players
A solid choice for most fans with iOS devices. You’ll be able to follow the draft as well as getting scouting reports on the top 62 (which basically covers the first two rounds), and it won’t cost you a cent. Note: There is also a premium version, but it doesn’t seem to give you much more than the ability to assign a favorite team.
iPhone: Download NFL ’11 Lite – NFL Enterprises, LLC from App Store or iTunes.
iPad: Download NFL ’11 for iPad – NFL Enterprises, LLC from App Store or iTunes.
Pro Football Weekly Draft Insider
If you are an aspiring Mel Kiper Jr. or Todd McShay, you are going to want to check out Pro Football Weekly’s Draft App. This app comes in a free version, and a “deluxe” version ($6.99) that has more detailed and in depth scouting reports than any other app we found.
Key Features (Free Version)
- Player rankings
- Exclusive Pro Football Weekly Video segments
- Mock drafts
- limited player scouting reports (QBs & DEs only)
- Team Needs
- Very detailed scouting reports for all prospects
While it doesn’t seem to offer a way to track the draft live, this is the app you want if you are looking for the most detailed scouting reports for every prospect. The free app gives you a lot of quality content, and real draftnicks will love the depth of the player profiles in the premium version.
iPhone / iPad:
Free Version: Pro Football Draft Insider – Pro Football Weekly
Deluxe ($6.99): Pro Football Draft Deluxe ’11 – Pro Football Weekly
Download Pro Football Weekly Draft from the Android Market or scan the QR Code below.
Another sports App that has been updated to include the NFL Draft. At least, the IOS version has been updated. We’re still waiting to see if the same update will be pushed out for Android.
The pre-draft content is a little light, but they do give you video features with Todd McShay, Mel Kiper, Jr., and others. They are also promising live real-time draft updates during the draft.
Download ESPN ScoreCenter – ESPN from the App Store.
Find ESPN ScoreCenter in the Android Market or scan the QR code below.
2011 Draft Prospects
This app for iPhone and iPad gives you the top 100 draft prospects of the 2011 draft with photos, stats, pros/cons, and video. Also included is a draft calendar listing important events leading up to and including draft day, an updated list of picks which will be updated, and a draft chat forum to correspond with other fans.
2011 Draft Prospects is a decent, but unspectacular app. If you are looking to get a few more scouting reports than you get with NFL ‘11, but don’t want to drop 7 bucks for the Pro Football Weekly Draft app, this might be worth a look. However, the player evaluations are nowhere near as detailed as the PFW Deluxe Draft App. As of this post the app costs .99, but according to the developer’s twitter account, the price will go up this week.

Philadelphia Eagles Draft App
The Philadelphia Eagles have released a free draft app for both iOS and Android. As of this post the app is still quite buggy, but it’s free and will probably please Eagles fans who just want to follow their teams actions during the draft.
Android: Download from the Philadelphia Eagles Draft App from the Android Market or scan the QR Code below.
iPhone & iPad: Download the Philadelphia Eagles Draft – Philadelphia Eagles App from the App Store.
If you have Cable TV subscription from Time Warner Cable, Verizon Fios TV or Bright House Networks, you’ll be able to watch the draft live on your iPhone with the new Watch ESPN app.
Get the WatchESPN iPhone app from the App Store.
The two NFL Apps, NFL Mobile and NFL ‘11, and Pro Football Weekly Draft, are the cream of the crop when it comes to NFL Draft content apps. If you are eligible for NFL Mobile w/ Verizon, look no further, it’s best of breed. For others, if you are looking for an app that lets you track and follow picks during the draft and give you some top player profiles, NFL ‘11 will fit your needs and it’s free. If you want unmatched scouting reports on every NFL Prospect, you’ll want to grab the Pro Football Weekly Deluxe Draft App.by
