From now until the end of the season, the NFL will feature a Thursday Night game every week (except week 17). These games will be broadcast exclusively on the NFL Network. If your one of those who doesn’t have the NFL Network with their Cable or Satellite subscription, you won’t be totally out in the cold. UPDATE: These Thursday Night Games are again available online in 2011.
So what do I mean by “Sort of?” Well, during each NFL Network game, NFL.com will present it’s “NFL.com Live Thursday Night Football”, but you don’t get the NFL Network’s full telecast. It’s what I would describe as a teaser. You will get “live look-ins” throughout the game, in studio analysts breaking down plays in the studio after they happen, live sideline reports from the game, and lots of NFL Network studio talk.
It’s not as good as watching the game on NFL Network, but if you’d like to follow the game, and don’t get the NFL Network, it’s not a terrible alternative. You’ll end up seeing a decent chunk of the game through the live look-ins.
While watching games this way last season, they would often show these live look-ins until there is a break in the action, like a time-out, then go back to the studio for analysis, etc. Unfortunately, it might be 10 or 15 minutes before they get you back to the live action.
As I mentioned, it’s not a bad alternative, especially if you only have a passing interest (pun!) in the game, and may only want to follow along with the game while browsing the web, or working on your computer.
It’s also worth noting that those of you with the NFL Mobile App will be able to watch the games live on your phone.
