Jack Nicklaus’ Guide to the 2011 US Open at Congressional iPhone & iPad App
The 2011 US Open begins June 16 and this new iPhone and iPad app from Jack Nicklaus will give golf fans an in depth look at host course Congressional Country Club. The free app features insight from the legendary Golden Bear, including hole-by-hole descriptions, exclusive video interviews, as well as a Twitter feed and a connection to Jack Nicklaus’ Facebook page.
Tap the bottom’s of the club heads to selection the modules.
“Jack’s Overview” presents a video of Jack talking about each hole at Congressional and how to play it.
“Jack’s Advice” features and interactive “flyover” of each hole. Using the scroll bar on the left you can scroll up and down to see the entire hole from tee to green. Tap the golden bear icon at the lower left to pop up a text box with a description of the hole.
The 19th hole is 10 video vignette’s of Jack talking about Congressional, from how he prepared to play the course, to some memorable moments like his hole during the US Senior Open.
This is a very slickly produced, visually appealing, yet simple app that is worth a download by every golf fan. It did take an unusually long time to download, but the wait is worth it. The beauty is in more than just the descriptions and images of Congressional. It’s Jack Nicklaus talking about Congressional. When Jack talks about golf, people listen. And for good reason. Congressional is typically the home of the annual AT&T National Tournament (although not this year due to hosting US Open), so it’s one you could use year after year. It’s easily consumable, however, and some golf fans might not feel the need to keep this app on their device after the US Open.
