PGA Tour Golf App for iPhone and Android

Are you a golfer or golf fan who follows the PGA Tour? Want to keep track of your favorite golfers or the current leaderboard? If so, you’re going to want to grab the PGA Tour App for iPhone, iPad, or Android.

You can download the PGA TOUR App for iPhone or iPad from the App Store or iTunes, or the Android version from the Android Market.

The App opens to the current weeks’ PGA Tour Event page. During the current PGA Tour event you will get live scoring and Tee Times for upcoming rounds.

Each tournament has it’s own course map that you access by selecting the “Course” button while viewing a tournament. You can scroll through he holes viewing par and yardage, or tap to select a hole and get a more detailed description and slightly more magnified image.

On the Tournaments tab, you’ll find the PGA schedule week-by-week. In the iPhone edition the present week’s tournament is shown at the top.

Track certain players by making them a “Favorite.” These players will appear above the leaderboard during each tournament.

Also on the Players tab, you can select their name to view current season stats. Unfortunately, there isn’t a “Stats” section that provides a rankings list for any of these statistical categories.

If the player is entered in that particular tournament, the other tabs along the top will give you the scorecard and even a “Play-by-Play” description of the players round.

The videos are very nice quality and include plenty of highlights and recaps.

The Android and iOS versions vary slightly in appearance and layout. The Android version allows you to navigate to the “other” tours along the top of the screen, but these options are found in the “More” section in the iPhone version. You access the tabs in Android by pressing the Menu button on your phone.

The Official PGA Tour app is a solid production with no major glaring omissions. It’s well designed with nice quality video highlights. The Android version loads rather slowly, especially when compared to iPhone version, but it’s not a huge deal.

Downside for the golfing fan is that, as you might expect, it doesn’t cover European or other International tours. We’d also like to see some PGA Tour statistical rankings included, like driving distances, greens in regulation, even money leaders. The FedEx Cup standing are very prominent, and you can find individual player stats, but no rankings. The app is free and ad supported.
